Complementary Health Therapies
Therapy or treatment, is the attempted remediation of a health problem, usually following a diagnosis. In the medical field, it is synonymous with the word \"treatment\". Among psychologists, the term may refer specifically to psychotherapy or \"talk therapy\".
Preventive therapy or prophylactic therapy is a treatment that is intended to prevent a medical condition from occurring. For example, many vaccines prevent infectious diseases. An abortive therapy is a treatment that is intended to stop a medical condition from progressing any further. A medication taken at the earliest signs of a disease, such as at the very symptoms of a migraine headache, is an abortive therapy.
A holistic treatment is a therepy done to releave pain holistically or as a preventitive to keep the body whole. A supportive therapy is one that does not treat or improve the underlying condition, but instead increases the patient\'s comfort. Supportive treatment may be palliative care.
Holistics or holistic health is a concept that all potential contributing factors which may affect a person\'s well-being, are taken into consideration when assessing a person\'s overall health. Holistic health in traditional medical practice upholds that all aspects of people\'s needs, physical, social, and mental, should be taken into account and seen as a whole. As defined above, It has been accepted among general practitioners and district nurses in Swedish primary care. In alternative medicine, it is believed that the spiritual aspect should also be taken into account when assessing a person’s overall well-being. The spiritual aspect is not associated with any religious ideology but rather, refers to the essence or \"core self\" of a person. Holistic healing practitioners propagated the idea of a healthy way of living, in harmony with nature. The general principle of holism was summarized by Aristotle in the Metaphysics: \"The whole is more than the sum of its parts\".
Reiki Healing is a spiritual practice developed in 1922 by Japanese Buddhist Mikao Usui. It uses a technique commonly called palm healing as a form of complementary and alternative medicine and is sometimes classified as oriental medicine by some professional bodies. Through the use of this technique, practitioners claim to transfer healing energy in the form of ki through the palms.
There are two main branches of Reiki, commonly referred to as Traditional Japanese Reiki and Western Reiki. Within both Traditional and Westernised forms of Reiki, there are three forms of degrees, commonly referred to as the First, Second, and Master/Teacher degree. According to Reiki practitioners and Masters, at First Degree, a Reiki practitioner is able to heal himself and others, at Second Degree is able to heal others distantly (commonly called distant healing) with the use of specialised symbols, and at Master level (specifically Master/Teacher level)is able to teach and attune others to Reiki.
